Oliver Haddrath (Collections Technician) showed us some examples of ultraviolet bird markings with the aid of a UV camera. Beyond the range of human sight, there are wavelengths smaller than visible light-ultraviolet (UV). Some substances can absorb UV light and then release that energy slowly, shifting it to a frequency we can perceive.
