What is Diastolic Function? Diastolic function means how well the left ventricle relaxes and fills with blood during diastole. If the LV becomes stiff, thick, or can’t relax properly, filling becomes difficult → this is diastolic dysfunction. ⸻ WHY IT IS IMPORTANT • It causes shortness of breath • Leads to HFpEF (Heart Failure with Preserved EF) • Common in elderly, hypertensive, diabetics ⸻ NORMAL DIASTOLE HAS 3 PARTS 1.
