The Cone snail. Another good reason why not touching or taking anything from the Reef is important: that pretty little shell might actually be a Cone snail. These snails may look harmless but they pack a defensive venomous punch. Some cone snail species produce conotoxins that can paralyse or kill a human within hours, and their venom is delivered via a harpoon-like tooth, and there is no antivenom.
